SisterLove,INC 2020 Leading Women's Society Inductee (Class of 2015)

Lots of folks feel uncomfortable talking about HIV—even more so in the Bible Belt—but Shyronn is finding ways to break through and tackle stigma. She’s a spokesperson for the Positive Women’s Network–USA and a representative for the Strategic Communications Team and several other advisory boards and committees. A believer in intersectionality, she’s also involved in Black Lives Matter and Fight for $15 (to raise the minimum wage) because she knows racism, poverty and HIV are intertwined. Shyronn is the founder of iknowAwareness and facilitates several HIV advocacy groups on Facebook. She also participates in street outreach by distributing safer-sex kits at rallies, community walks and events.

Shyronn Jones is a lifelong advocate who spends most of her time building connections with people. She does not only aim her advocacy solely towards the powers that be in Washington, D.C., Jones is putting it into the hands of the people.

“[Shyronn] understands the need to address the many social determinants that make communities like hers particularly vulnerable to acquiring HIV and that stand as barriers to good health outcomes: racism, poverty, homophobia, and other forms of systemic oppression.” says Jennie Smith-Camejo, Communications Director at PWN-USA. “Consequently, she is an activist in her community around intersectional issues beyond HIV. Her mission to educate the public and raise awareness about HIV shines through in all her work and activism. Shyronn is one of the most determined and dedicated women I’ve had the pleasure of working with.”
